Created by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists - Empower needs to be a go to website if you are looking for information for yourself or for loved ones on endocrine and metabolic disorders. There is a wealth of information here for consumers including an online magazine also called EmPower, and separate pages dedicated to specific conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis, pituitary and thyroid disorders, and adrenal disease. One of the most compelling resources available is the Diabetes Emergency Plan with a checklist to use to ensure that in the case of a natural disaster or another type of emergency.

General description of the endocrine system and diseases that can affect it. The website is provided by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Provides links to a variety of specific conditions such as adrenal insufficiency, Graves disease, and hyperthyroidism. There is also a continuously updated news feed on endocrine-related issues.
Journey Through the Endocrine System
An easy way to understand endocrine conditions and diseases and the parts of the body that are affected when things go wrong with one's endocrine system is with this visual journey of the human body. Hormone Health Network
This website operated by the Endocrine Society offers referrals to endocrinologists who are members of the Society The list is limited to the United States and Canada and is comprised of 6,500 doctors. The site is searchable by specific discipline and by geography. The list is not extensive but doctors taking new patients are added to the site on a daily basis.
Professional Research Websites Patients Can Use
Most reliable medical information comes from respected medical literature. When you or your loved one has a disease or condition you want to have access to the most current and accurate medical information such as is provided by the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM). Using these databases of medical literature such as the NLM's Pubmed can be daunting. To gain access to the literature without becoming an expert researcher you can use the following sites through these search filters.
Pubmed Central (PMC)
Using the vast journal literature of the U.S. National Library of Medicine database, Pubmed Central offers access to archives of free full-text professional journal articles on medical subjects. Using this link will lead you to a preset search on endocrinology in the journal literature in the last five years. You can restrict the search to the last year for just the most recent or enter any other medical search term you would like.
Pubmed Health
Pubmed Health like PMC mines the data contained within the U.S. National Library of Medicine databases. It is an easy to use filter that provides easy access to clinical reviews on medical conditions. It is geared to both consumers and caregivers. Patient summaries of clinical findings can be very helpful when you are looking for answers as to what has been used to treat a condition or disease. The link here takes you right to search results on endocrine disorders but you may enter any medical condition you like.

Clinical Trials
In some cases being able to join an ongoing clinical trial may be the best way of tackling serious diseases of the endocrine system.

Preset search looking for open studies having to do with endocrine system diseases on the U.S. Government National Institutes of Health operated website on ongoing and completed clinical trials. Search, as entered, will pull up clinical trials that are still recruiting patients or will be recruiting patients in the near future. Search can be modified to look for specific conditions and can be limited to specified geographic locations.
